History of Sweeps
In the seventeen hundreds King George 2nd was riding in his carriage when the horses bolted. A man with a sooty face came out of the crowd to try to stop them. The King being grateful decreed that Chimney Sweep's would from then on be a lucky omen after helping to save his life. Since then people have thought that when they saw a Sweep they would be blessed with good luck. As the years went by it became a tradition that if a bride saw a Sweep on her Wedding Day her marriage would be blessed with Good Luck and this is why it's very popular to have a Sweep attend a Wedding. As the art of chimney sweeping is becoming a dying trade it somehow seems more special now to have a Sweep kiss the bride and bless the couple as they prepare for their future together. An opportunity like this will not be around forever |
